West Ham Eye Move for Inter Milan Striker Mehdi Taremi This Summer
With the new Premier League season less than a month away, West Ham have done little to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.
Following a close brush with relegation last term, the need for reinforcements—particularly up front—has been evident.
One name now being linked is 33-year-old Mehdi Taremi, a move that may remind fans of the recruitment strategy under Tim Steidten.
Concerns over Taremi deal
Taremi’s profile fits a troubling pattern at West Ham: signing ageing strikers with minimal resale value. Despite Steidten’s departure, the club appears to be following the same flawed strategy.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (23 July, pg. 4), the Irons admire the Iranian forward, who has struggled since joining Inter Milan from Porto last summer.
In 43 appearances for the Serie A side, Taremi has managed just three goals. While Porto are also reportedly interested in re-signing him, his £50,000-a-week wages could block any move back to Portugal.
Pressure on Graham Potter
New manager Graham Potter likely accepted the West Ham job with assurances of financial backing in the transfer market. So far, those promises have not materialised.
The club has yet to make a serious push for quality signings, leaving the squad vulnerable ahead of the new campaign.
Unless West Ham act quickly to bring in reinforcements, they risk enduring another season fighting to stay in the Premier League.
