The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing challenges with their offensive weapons, particularly after trading wide receiver Diontae Johnson. While they acknowledge the need for improvement, they find some reassurance in their running back duo of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, with Cordarrelle Patterson as a third option. However, not everyone shares this optimism.
On First Things First, Nick Wright criticized the entirety of Pittsburgh’s offensive arsenal and downplayed the potential impact of Harris and Warren. He expressed skepticism about their wide receivers and labeled Harris as below average.
Harris made history as the first player in Steelers’ history to achieve over 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first three seasons. His performance in 2023 marked a career-best in yards per carry, totaling 1,035 yards on 255 carries, with an average of 4.1 yards per carry and eight touchdowns. Warren, in his second year, showcased his effectiveness with an impressive 5.3 yards per carry, rushing for 784 yards and four touchdowns while also contributing in the passing game.
Looking ahead, Harris’s price tag stands at $6.790 million, as he has not earned a Pro Bowl selection directly from the league. However, with the running back market undergoing a reset in 2024, negotiations for Harris’s contract extension will become a significant consideration for the Steelers, especially with players like Saquon Barkley setting new benchmarks.
