‘No way I could do that’ – Everton player dismisses idea of a potential position change with a laugh
Everton defender Michael Keane admits there's "no way" he could replicate Dominic Calvert-Lewin's role, despite his top-corner strike against Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October).
The defender secured Everton’s lead against Premier League newcomers with a composed finish, placing the ball into the top-left corner following a brilliant assist from Dwight McNeil.
His goal was one of the standout finishes of the season, but in a conversation with the Liverpool ECHO (21 October), the centre-back admitted he doesn’t believe he could fill the role of a striker like Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
“As for being a striker myself, not really, no,” he said. “It sounds appealing, and I think I’d enjoy it, but realistically, I’m not sure I could do that job. It’s a tough role, and scoring is just one part of it.
You look at all the work Dom puts in—there’s no way I could manage that.”
Everton finding consistent Premier League form
Everton’s season has been a bit of a rollercoaster, but they’ve recently started to find consistency.
The Toffees have earned eight points from their last four Premier League matches, a stark contrast to their struggles at the start of the campaign.
At various points this season, some fans had called for Sean Dyche to be sacked, but the club stood by him, and things now appear to be improving.
Everton currently sit 16th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone.
While that may not seem significant, considering the team’s form after early losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa, many Everton fans would have gladly taken this position by game week nine.
With the January transfer window approaching and the integration of Armando Broja on the horizon, the team seems poised for continued improvement.
