“I’m amazed”: Brennan Johnson Shares What Surprises Him About Heung-Min Son at Tottenham
Brennan Johnson has turned around his challenging start to the 2024-25 season and emerged as a vital player for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
The Welsh international faced significant criticism from fans and pundits for his lackluster performances for both club and country.
Following this backlash, Johnson even deleted his Instagram account, but he has since made a remarkable comeback with an impressive goalscoring streak.
Before joining Tottenham, the former Nottingham Forest forward had already taken note of one player in particular.
Brennan Johnson revealed that he admired Son Heung-min even prior to his transfer to Spurs.
Son is regarded as one of Tottenham’s all-time greats, consistently delivering outstanding performances for the club over the years.
Johnson noted that he often watched videos of the South Korean star, particularly impressed by Son’s ability to strike the ball with both feet. “Before I came to Spurs, I always watched Sonny,” Johnson stated.
“I didn’t specifically look for videos of him, but I made it a point to watch him whenever Tottenham played.”
He expressed his admiration for Son’s exceptional skill: “It’s incredible to see how two-footed he is. Experiencing it firsthand is amazing.”
Although Johnson hasn’t directly mentioned his admiration to Son, he believes the forward understands his respect based on their interactions.
“I don’t know if he’s fully aware, but he probably knows from the way I ask him questions that I hold him in high regard,” Johnson added.
In terms of performance this season, Johnson enjoyed a remarkable run, scoring in six consecutive matches for Tottenham before his streak ended against West Ham United.
Meanwhile, while Johnson has emerged as the club’s top scorer this season, Son has faced injury challenges and has managed only three goals in all competitions under Ange Postecoglou.
