‘Oh No’ – Pundit expresses concern over incident involving Everton player during international duty today

The 35-year-old defender, who made only seven Premier League starts last season, has just returned from injury, but Everton manager Sean Dyche now faces another concern over his full-back.

Seamus Coleman was substituted 12 minutes into the second half following a collision with Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, leaving the Toffees anxiously awaiting news on their captain’s condition.

Commenting on ITV 1 (7 September, 6:16 pm), Andros Townsend remarked: “Oh no… Hopefully, it’s just a scrape down his Achilles.

His boot is off, and there’s a hole in his sock. Yeah, Maguire just scrapes the back of Coleman’s Achilles.”

Everton received a further blow as Coleman suffered this injury during the Republic of Ireland’s match against England.

After working hard to regain fitness, it would be a huge setback for Coleman if this injury results in another lengthy absence.

The incident with Maguire appeared to be accidental, and there is hope that Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson substituted Coleman as a precaution, with fellow Everton player Jake O’Brien taking his place.

Dyche cannot afford another injury at right-back, a position that remains problematic for Everton and was not addressed during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier was considered as a potential solution, according to David Ornstein, but no deal materialized for the Merseyside club.

Ashley Young, 39, has already been sent off this season against Brighton, Nathan Patterson remains sidelined, and academy player Roman Dixon was called up to face Tottenham.

With many fans already unhappy about the international break, another long-term injury to Coleman would only heighten their frustration.
