Leicester City are reported to have been in contact with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they search for a successor to Enzo Maresca.
Maresca, who guided the Foxes to the Championship title and secured their immediate return to the Premier League, has since departed to take over at Stamford Bridge.
This development has left Leicester seeking a new manager, with names like Graham Potter, Steve Cooper, and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan being linked to the role. The Sun has added Solskjaer to this list, suggesting the former Manchester United player and manager might be poised for a ‘sensational Premier League return.’
Since leaving United in November 2021, Solskjaer has not taken up another managerial position, despite leading the Red Devils to two top-four finishes and coming close to winning the Europa League.
He has stayed out of the limelight until recently, when he was associated with vacancies at Turkish club Besiktas and the Canada national team.
Solskjaer seems to be carefully considering his next move after an unhappy stint with Cardiff City in his first UK role. In a detailed interview with The Athletic in September 2023, his first since leaving Old Trafford, he outlined his criteria for his next position.
He expressed a strong desire to return to management, stating: “Yes, and I’ve had offers. Recently, two from Saudi Arabia. My best friend, who is also my agent, filters them. Having managed Man United, you set your own criteria for what you want to work with.
“I love England and the Premier League. Even the Championship is stronger than ever, but I don’t feel bound to England. Perhaps a different challenge where I need to experience a new culture and learn a new language.
“The DNA and identity of the club are crucial, a place where I can be at my best. It has to be a good match. Maybe I made the wrong decision going to Cardiff, for instance, where there was a clash of identities and styles.”
