The Telegraph journalist reported on his personal X account on Saturday (27 July) that formalities are still pending, including a medical for the 23-year-old Ireland international, scheduled for early next week.
Everton reportedly faced competition from Wolves and Ajax for O’Brien, but he appears set to head to Goodison Park in the coming days.
Everton’s Financial Position Despite Takeover Setbacks
This deal is encouraging as it indicates Everton still have funds to spend despite two failed takeovers. Dan Friedkin backed out of his agreement with Farhad Moshiri just over a week ago, and the lengthy 777 Partners saga also fell through earlier this year.
Everton have generated significant funds through transfers this summer, with Amadou Onana and Lewis Dobbin moving to Aston Villa for £50 million and £10 million, respectively, and Ben Godfrey joining Atalanta for around £11 million.
Additionally, Tim Iroegbunam (£9 million) and Iliman Ndiaye (£15 million) have arrived on permanent deals, while Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom have joined on loan.
O’Brien’s anticipated arrival would take Everton’s spending to around £40 million, still leaving a profit from the £71 million in sales.
