Opinion: Leeds United May Need to Further Lower Asking Price After £2M Reduction by 49ers

Leeds United recently lowered their asking price for a player they are eager to sell this week. However, after last night’s performance, they may need to reduce it even further.
Leeds is planning to offload several players this summer, with Crysencio Summerville being a prime candidate. Brighton has shown interest in him, and he could be sold for a fee of £35 million in the coming months.
Additionally, five players who used Victor Orta’s loan clause last summer are still sorting out their futures. Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch, and Luis Sinisterra have already secured their next moves, but Jack Harrison, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, and Max Wober are yet to finalize their plans. Wober had a particularly challenging game last night for Austria against France in Germany.
Wober spent the last season on loan at Gladbach, utilizing Orta’s clause to leave Leeds temporarily. However, he struggled against France’s formidable attack and was fortunate not to be sent off. Starting in central defense, Wober received a yellow card early on for a desperate tackle on Ousmane Dembele. Later, he mispositioned himself, inadvertently scoring an own goal. Shortly after the second half began, he pushed Antoine Griezmann into the advertising boards, narrowly avoiding a second yellow card or conceding a free-kick, leaving Griezmann bloodied.
Wober’s poor performance led to his substitution after just over an hour. It wasn’t just a bad game; it was a series of errors on a significant stage. Initially, Leeds aimed to sell Wober for £14.5 million, a price higher than what they paid for him in January 2023. However, recent reports indicated they reduced the asking price to £12.5 million, cutting it by £2 million.
Given Wober’s disastrous display on the international stage, his market value is likely to drop. If Leeds hopes to sell him, their initial price seems unrealistic. With Gladbach unwilling to meet the £12.5 million tag and Monday night’s performance further diminishing his appeal, Leeds might need to lower their asking price even more to facilitate his sale.
