Opinion: Leicester City Could Land Cooper’s Next Gibbs-White with Swoop for ‘Remarkable’ £22m Target
Steve Cooper Identifies Leicester City's Potential Young Star akin to Morgan Gibbs-White

Leicester City and manager Steve Cooper are focused on replacing midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who recently transferred to Chelsea. The 25-year-old had an impressive 2023/24 Championship season, recording 26 goal contributions under former Leicester manager Enzo Maresca, whom he was eager to join at Chelsea.
In search of a midfielder with similar goal-scoring potential, Cooper has been exploring various options. Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley is reportedly a target, while former Coventry City player Callum O’Hare has been identified as a more affordable alternative.
Cooper is also eyeing another player who could emulate the success of Morgan Gibbs-White, a star he previously managed at Nottingham Forest. Leicester City is considering Matias Soule, currently with Serie A side Frosinone, as a key addition for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Soule’s performance in Serie A suggests he could fill a similar role to Gibbs-White. Although primarily used as a right-winger during his impressive 2023/24 season, Soule also showcased his versatility and creativity as an attacking midfielder. Notably, he excelled in a match against AC Milan, where he scored and provided an assist.
Cooper envisions Soule as a crucial player in Leicester City’s attacking transitions, leveraging his ability to create chances and pressure opposition defenses, akin to Gibbs-White’s role at Nottingham Forest.
