Opinion: Mohammed Kudus likely thrilled by latest West Ham manager update

The Spaniard hasn’t yet plunged into the icy depths below, but one gust of wind or a slight nudge from the pirate’s sword could send him tumbling into the pool of out-of-work coaches.

According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein (4 December), there is no timeline for when West Ham will decide on Julen Lopetegui’s future.

However, all options are on the table following the dismal 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Tuesday (3 December).

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if David Sullivan and the West Ham board decided to end Lopetegui’s tenure.

The rumor mill is already in full swing regarding his potential replacement. One name, in particular, could excite one of West Ham’s most crucial players.

As reported by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (4 December), former Denmark national team coach Kasper Hjulmand is being considered as a candidate to replace Lopetegui at the London Stadium.

Hjulmand stepped down from his previous role in July and is reportedly ready for a new challenge.

The prospect of Hjulmand joining West Ham is likely to thrill Mohammed Kudus, the Hammers’ star forward.

Kudus played under Hjulmand during his early days in European football with FC Nordsjaelland in 2018.

Though Kudus only worked with Hjulmand for a little over a year, it was during this time that the Ghanaian forward’s performances caught the attention of Ajax, eventually leading to his move to the Premier League in the summer of 2023.

This season, however, has been challenging for Kudus, who served a five-game suspension for violent conduct after being sent off against Tottenham.

Reuniting with the coach who gave him his first big opportunity in Europe and helped set his career on course for Premier League success could be just what Kudus needs to reignite his for this season.
