West Ham United may have squandered a two-goal advantage at the weekend, but there is still a clear sense of progress around the club.

After a miserable opening to the campaign and a difficult introduction for Nuno Espírito Santo, the Hammers’ fortunes have begun to shift.

The Portuguese manager has collected seven points from his last three Premier League matches, a run strong enough to drag the team out of the relegation zone and inject renewed belief into the fanbase.

A key figure in this recent resurgence has been Callum Wilson. The English striker has rediscovered his scoring touch and delivered some important goals just when West Ham needed them most.

Still, despite Wilson’s upturn in form, speculation has already begun to focus on players who might eventually take his place.

Several reports suggest that the club are eyeing a forward who could represent a significant upgrade.

Although the January transfer window remains weeks away, West Ham’s name continues to appear alongside various attacking talents from both inside England and abroad.

Fulham winger Adama Traoré has been linked with a move to the London Stadium, as has Josh Sargent of Norwich City.

Yet the most intriguing rumour is centred on a striker who is far less known to Premier League supporters but potentially far more exciting.

According to a recent report from Claret & Hugh, West Ham have turned their attention toward Union Saint-Gilloise forward Promise David.

The club have reportedly already lodged enquiries about the Canadian international, who could cost up to £17m.

While relatively unfamiliar to fans in England, David’s recent performances and long-term potential make him a particularly appealing target—one who could eventually succeed Wilson at the spearhead of the attack.

When comparing two centre-forwards, the most straightforward starting point is their direct goal contributions.

Goals and assists remain the clearest indicators of a striker’s impact, especially for a team like West Ham, who must maximise their offensive output to avoid being pulled back into a relegation battle.

Despite Wilson’s recent scoring streak, the numbers still favour David.

Wilson has managed four goals and no assists in ten appearances this season, averaging a goal involvement every 2.5 matches.

David, labelled “outstanding” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has produced eight goals in 19 games.

Although he also has no assists, his average of one goal involvement every 2.37 matches edges out the West Ham forward.

The difference becomes even starker when last season’s statistics are brought into the discussion.

Wilson endured a difficult campaign at Newcastle United, scoring just one goal in 22 outings.

In contrast, David delivered a superb return of 24 goals and five assists in 41 appearances for Union SG—an average involvement every 1.41 games.

With form like that, it is little surprise that Canadian journalist Ben Steiner described the striker as someone who “just can’t stop scoring.”

David’s age further strengthens his case. At 24, he is still entering his prime years and offers the kind of long-term value West Ham have lacked in the centre-forward position.

He could arrive as an immediate improvement on Wilson while also developing into the club’s main striker for seasons to come.

Given his proven productivity, promising upside and relatively affordable fee, signing Promise David in January appears to be a move West Ham should pursue with real intent.
