Leicester City ‘on the verge of’ seizing £21m transfer for Colombia winger
Yaser Asprilla, previously linked with Rennes, now seems poised to join Leicester City instead, according to French reports.
Leicester City are reportedly set to outmaneuver Rennes in their bid for Watford forward Yaser Asprilla, with a potential deal reaching €25 million (£21 million).
The club’s focus this transfer window is on bolstering their attack, and they seem to be nearing a new signing.
According to FootMercato, Asprilla’s agent, who had been in advanced discussions with Rennes, is now in the UK to negotiate with Leicester and finalize the transfer.
The 20-year-old Colombian international impressed in the Championship last season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists for Watford.
Asprilla’s profile is similar to that of Matias Soule, another forward Leicester was interested in who ultimately joined Roma.
Last season, Asprilla predominantly played on the right wing but also featured in an attacking midfield role.
His style complements Leicester’s tactical approach, which often involves wingers cutting inside to allow full-backs to overlap.
In addition to Rennes, Asprilla has been linked with Porto this summer. He has spent the last two seasons with Watford after joining from Envigado in Colombia.
Asprilla has already made his mark on the international stage, being part of Colombia’s squad that reached the Copa America final this summer, though he only played 18 minutes in the tournament.
