Opinion: Sean Dyche May Have Identified the Ideal Calvert-Lewin Replacement in Championship Star

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have led Everton’s attack, but their performances have been underwhelming.
This has fueled speculation about Calvert-Lewin’s future, particularly during the summer transfer window.
With his contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season and no extension in sight, manager Sean Dyche must start planning for life without the 27-year-old striker. Enter Elijah Adebayo.
The Luton Town forward was linked to Everton during and after the transfer window, with reports suggesting Dyche has made him a “top target” for January [Alan Nixon, 1 September].
Despite Luton Town’s relegation last season, Adebayo was in impressive form, scoring 10 Premier League goals.
Although that number may not seem high, he outperformed both Beto and Calvert-Lewin.
What could Elijah Adebayo bring to Everton?
Adebayo was arguably Luton’s standout performer last season. Without his contributions, it’s doubtful Rob Edwards’ side would have remained competitive for Premier League survival as long as they did.
For Everton, Adebayo would bring a reliable goal-scoring presence, potentially helping players like Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom thrive alongside him.
His proven ability to find the back of the net could add much-needed firepower to Dyche’s team.
Carlton Palmer has suggested that Adebayo could cost Everton between £15-£20 million, a fee Luton would likely accept for the 26-year-old striker [Football League World, 5 September].
If Calvert-Lewin shows no interest in extending his stay at Goodison Park, selling him in January would be a smart move to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
His departure could also give Dyche the financial flexibility to pursue Adebayo, potentially strengthening Everton’s attack and boosting their chances of avoiding another Premier League relegation battle.
