Daniel Farke is optimistic that his squad will remain largely unchanged as he prepares for the 24/25 Championship season, with hopes of achieving promotion.
However, he is likely to face considerable interest in his two standout wingers, particularly Willy Gnonto, who had a standout year in 2024.
Fabrizio Romano and other sources reported last week that Everton is keen on acquiring Gnonto from Leeds this month. Negotiations have been ongoing about the terms of a potential permanent transfer to Goodison Park.
Gnonto has shown a strong interest in the move, having expressed a desire to leave when Everton first approached in August 2023.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, while Leeds expects renewed interest from Everton, no formal offer has yet been made.
Graham Smyth notes that despite substantial speculation from Merseyside about a forthcoming bid, nothing has materialized so far at Elland Road. He adds, “If Leeds considers selling either or both wingers, an early deal would be ideal to secure their preferred replacements in time for the upcoming season.”
Everton’s ability to fund a significant transfer might be enhanced following the recent confirmation of Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa for a reported £50 million.
If the price is right, Leeds may consider parting with Gnonto this summer. However, Everton will need to meet Leeds’ valuation.
Currently, Leeds is not under severe pressure to sell its top players, particularly after the departure of Archie Gray, which is reflected in the ongoing discussions.
With Everton having financial resources at their disposal, the next step is to see if they will meet Leeds’ asking price for Gnonto.
