Opinion: West Ham Can Mitigate Potential Lucas Paqueta Loss with Proposal to Sign ‘Baller’

According to Rudy Galetti on 19 July, the Hammers have resumed discussions with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. Flamengo is also keen on bringing the 26-year-old back to Brazil, as reported by O Dia on 18 July.

Lucas Paqueta’s transfer saga cannot be mentioned without addressing the four spot-fixing charges leveled against him by the Football Association, allegations he has vehemently denied.

Should West Ham United finalize Paqueta’s departure from the London Stadium this summer, they would need to find a suitable replacement for their star player.

Since joining from Lyon in the summer of 2022, Paqueta has made 84 appearances for the Hammers, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists, establishing himself as a key player for the team.

Losing Paqueta would be a significant setback, but the club might already have a potential replacement lined up.

West Ham United is reportedly preparing for Lucas Paqueta’s exit by targeting Crysencio Summerville. According to Fabrizio Romano on 22 July, West Ham has made an initial proposal to Leeds United for Summerville, with ongoing talks on the player’s side.

If Paqueta leaves, the 22-year-old Summerville could bolster the attacking lineup at the London Stadium, joining Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and new signing Luis Guilherme.

Summerville had an impressive season, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions, as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, drawing interest from various European clubs.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who took charge last summer, praised Summerville as a “baller” according to Leeds Live, a description that has proven accurate.

Considering the uncertainty surrounding Paqueta, securing Summerville’s signature would be a prudent move by the West Ham management to strengthen their squad before other clubs express interest.
