Leeds United’s attempt to sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon is set to fall through, sources have told Football Insider.
On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke reported that Rodon is likely to join a Premier League club after his loan stint at Elland Road last season.
As revealed by Football Insider on June 17, Tottenham are looking to sell Rodon this summer and will accept a £10 million bid for him.
Premier League newcomers Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton are all interested in the 26-year-old, having secured promotion over Leeds last season.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds have maintained contact with Tottenham regarding a permanent deal for Rodon and have expressed their desire to sign him. However, they are now unlikely to meet Rodon’s valuation due to financial constraints.
Rodon, under contract with Tottenham until 2026, is expected to be sold before the transfer window closes. He had a successful loan spell with Leeds, making 50 appearances across all competitions last season and quickly becoming a fan favorite. Despite his efforts, Leeds did not secure promotion after losing the play-off final to Southampton.
Leeds would have had a strong chance of signing Rodon if they had been promoted, but he is now expected to join a Premier League club in the coming weeks.
Rodon is unlikely to be the only significant departure from Farke’s side next season, as several star players have been linked with moves away from Elland Road. Last month, Football Insider reported that Leeds must recoup an astonishing £150 million in player sales after failing to gain promotion.
