Oscar Fairs: West Ham United Footballer Dies at 15 Following Cancer Battle as Tributes Pour In
Heartfelt Tributes Paid to Young West Ham Talent Who Passed Away at 15
Goalkeeper Oscar Fairs was diagnosed with an ependymoma in August last year after months of experiencing heart palpitations, right-sided weakness, headaches, and sickness.
Initially misdiagnosed as a mental health issue, his condition worsened until an MRI scan revealed a 9cm brain tumor with three external cysts.
Despite surgery that reduced the tumors, his life could not be saved.
Mark Noble, former West Ham player and sporting director, expressed the club’s grief, saying: “On behalf of everyone at West Ham United, it is with deep and profound sadness that I confirm the tragic passing of our U15s Academy goalkeeper Oscar Fairs, following his brave battle with cancer.
“Oscar was cherished by everyone at the Academy—not only was he a talented goalkeeper, but also a true Hammer and an exceptional young person.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
“I have wonderful memories of Oscar playing in my garden—Lenny and his teammates adored him.
He was friendly, happy, well-mannered, and polite, with such a promising future ahead of him.
It is unimaginably devastating that he has been taken from his family and friends at such a young age.
“The thoughts and sincere condolences of everyone at the club are with Oscar’s parents, Natalie and Russell, and his brother Harry.
We kindly request respect for the family’s privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
As a mark of respect, all West Ham academy fixtures for the weekend have been postponed following Fairs’passing.
