“‘Outstanding Ability’: Lee Carsley Shares His Verdict on an ‘Underrated’ Leicester City Star”

"Lee Carsley Emerges as a Candidate to Replace Steve Cooper at Leicester City"

Leicester City have been linked with several managerial candidates following the sacking of Steve Cooper over the weekend.

The 46-year-old was dismissed after just 12 Premier League games, leaving the Foxes in 16th place, only one point above the relegation zone.

With Ipswich Town in 18th breathing down their necks, the next manager will face a significant challenge to steady the ship.

On Tuesday evening, an exclusive report revealed that Leicester is considering Lee Carsley as a potential replacement.

After Cooper’s departure on Sunday, former Leicester star Gary Lineker publicly backed Carsley for the role, a sentiment echoed by Micah Richards, who called it “a great shout” to appoint the former England U21 manager.

Lee Carsley’s Managerial Background

Carsley began his coaching career as caretaker manager of Coventry City in 2012, followed by stints with Brentford and Birmingham City.

In 2020, he joined the England setup, working with the U20s, U21s, and even the senior team as an interim manager.

During his time with England’s U21s, Carsley worked closely with Leicester midfielder Oliver Skipp, who joined the Foxes from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Carsley’s Praise for Oliver Skipp

Comments from 2021 have resurfaced, showcasing Carsley’s admiration for Skipp.

Speaking to Football London, he described the midfielder as “underrated” and full of potential.

“I’ve known Oli for a while. He’s very underrated. He’s one of those players you notice when they’re not in the team.

He works on his game diligently and has a lot of development ahead.

Physically, he’ll get stronger as he gets older. He has outstanding ability, and Tottenham recognized it just as we have over the years,” Carsley said.

Why Skipp Will Start Against Brentford

Since arriving at Leicester, the 24-year-old Skipp has had inconsistent playing time under Cooper.

However, an injury to Harry Winks during Saturday’s match against Chelsea has opened the door for Skipp to take a central role.

Winks was substituted after 11 minutes, and with his recovery timeline unclear, Skipp is expected to start in Leicester’s upcoming match against Brentford.

As Leicester’s managerial hunt continues, Skipp’s performance could be pivotal, regardless of who takes the reins at the King Power Stadium.
