“Pie in the Sky” – Pundit dismisses Leeds United speculation surrounding West Brom’s Carlos Corberan

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking to MOT Leeds News, has downplayed the rumors linking West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan to Leeds United, stating that the speculation is not even worth discussing at this time.

Leeds United has made a strong start to the season, showing resilience after their play-off final loss to Southampton.

Their recent 2-0 victory against Sheffield United provided a much-needed morale boost following a disappointing draw against Sunderland before the international break.

Overall, their performances have been commendable, placing them in a solid position to compete for a top-six finish by the end of the season.

However, Leeds has experienced the heartbreak of missing out on promotion in both 2019 and earlier this year, so they will be eager to secure an automatic promotion spot this time around.

It remains to be seen if they can achieve that goal, but their current form is encouraging.

Leeds’ manager, Daniel Farke, has previously won automatic promotion from the Championship with Norwich City.

Despite the pressure that comes with managing a team like Leeds, where expectations are always high, Farke has so far done a commendable job.

There seems to be no immediate pressure on him, and he is being given the space to continue leading the team.

However, in football, things can change quickly, and a few poor results could shift the atmosphere.

In September, the Daily Mirror reported that Leeds United was keeping an eye on West Brom boss Corberan, who has a history with Leeds, having worked as a coach under Marcelo Bielsa.

Corberan has since proven himself as a capable manager, with a successful stint at Huddersfield Town and now a strong performance with West Brom.

Paul Robinson, however, has dismissed any discussion of Corberan potentially replacing Farke at Leeds as unnecessary and premature.

He told MOT Leeds News, “It’s not even worth talking about. It’s pie in the sky.

He’s a great manager who is doing a really good job at West Brom, but you don’t talk about another manager when he’s doing such a good job elsewhere.”

Robinson emphasized that both Farke and Corberan are focused on their current teams and on achieving promotion this season.

He added, “You can admire him [Corberan] from a distance, but it’s a nonsense conversation.”

While Corberan has built a defensively strong West Brom team and could be an attractive option for Leeds in the future, Robinson believes there is no point in speculating about a managerial change right now.

As things stand, Farke needs time to fully establish his success at Leeds United.

Last season, he guided his team to an impressive 90-point finish, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion.

Despite having a strong squad with talented players like Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, Farke fell just short of securing promotion, but it would be unfair to say he underperformed.

His management this season has been solid, and Leeds has shown no signs of a hangover from their play-off defeat, which is a positive indicator for the rest of the campaign.

There is a sense of optimism around Leeds United’s prospects under Farke, and it would not be surprising if he manages to lead the team back to the Premier League and stabilize them at that level.

While Corberan could be a future candidate for the Leeds job, Robinson suggests that any potential appointment would likely occur years from now, rather than in the near future.

For now, the focus should remain on supporting Farke as he aims to guide Leeds to promotion.
