Niclas Fullkrug is considered West Ham’s primary striker target this summer. It was recently reported that personal terms and the fee structure were still under negotiation.
However, developments have accelerated, and Fullkrug is now traveling to London to finalize terms with the Hammers.
I’m increasingly convinced that the Germany international could be the key player to complete our team. Admittedly, he’s 31, and it’s unfortunate he isn’t younger by four or five years.
Yet, for the next two seasons, he should perform admirably for us. Last summer, he was in excellent form for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
Despite this, it seems Julen Lopetegui has other options in mind as well. If West Ham secures Fullkrug, it’s likely that Lopetegui won’t pursue another center-forward this summer.
According to a report from Marca (print edition July 31st, page 23), West Ham is interested in Alexander Sorloth but has been told by Villarreal to pay £32 million to sign him.
This is a substantial amount, and Atletico Madrid is also moving forward with a deal to bring Sorloth to the Spanish capital (Fabrizio Romano).
Described by Mundo Deportivo as ‘extraordinary,’ Sorloth has all the qualities needed to succeed at West Ham in the Premier League.
The Hammers’ owners have reportedly made a formal £25 million bid for the 28-year-old, but they will need to increase this offer to secure his transfer to the London Stadium.
Sorloth has scored 131 goals in 368 career games. Last season for Villarreal, he netted an impressive 26 goals and provided six assists in 41 games.
At 6ft 5in tall, the Norwegian is a formidable presence for opposing center-backs, thanks to his strength and physicality. The former Crystal Palace striker excels in aerial duels, has decent pace, and is an elite finisher.
On paper, Sorloth would be the ideal striker for West Ham. However, I believe that Niclas Fullkrug is the center-forward we will sign this summer.
