Postecoglou Offers Update on Son’s Fitness Before Frankfurt Clash

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that team captain Son Heung-min has not travelled to Germany for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Son, who was absent during Tottenham’s 4-2 Premier League defeat to Wolves, will miss Thursday’s match as well.

Postecoglou revealed that the South Korean has been dealing with a foot injury over the past couple of weeks and continues to experience pain.

“Sonny didn’t travel, and he’s the only one who hasn’t. He’s been struggling with his foot for a couple of weeks and has been in pain.

Everyone else is fine. Kevin [Danso] trained and is available,” the Australian coach said.

Danso, who has been sidelined since early March due to a hamstring injury, is expected to return to the squad for Thursday’s match.

His last appearance came in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, and his availability will be a welcome boost for the Spurs’ backline.

Speaking after Sunday’s defeat at Molineux, Postecoglou explained that Son had picked up a knock on his foot and it didn’t make sense to include him in the travelling squad given the intensity of the upcoming match.

At that time, he had expressed confidence that Son would recover in time for Thursday.

Interestingly, Son was seen in Tottenham’s recent training footage, briefly appearing behind Danso as the squad entered the training pitch.

He took part in warm-up drills with his teammates, suggesting some level of involvement.

However, based on Postecoglou’s latest update, the decision has been made to leave Son at Hotspur Way to focus on his recovery, with hopes that he’ll be fit for the weekend fixture.
