Postecoglou Calls on Tottenham’s Veterans to Lead the Charge

Despite some criticism, his numbers suggest he remains a key player for Spurs.

 

Postecoglou has praised the 32-year-old’s dedication, noting that Son has had to play almost every match without a break.

Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou said, “Sonny’s been outstanding for us. I’ve mentioned before that the demands we’ve placed on him this season have been extreme.

 

It’s tough for any player to carry such a load, both physically and mentally.

 

I thought he was fantastic against Brentford last weekend, and that was largely because he only played 45 minutes on Thursday night.

 

“We haven’t had the luxury of rotating him as much as we’d like. If we could have given him the rest he needs, we would have seen an even better version of him.

 

But what I do see in him is a clear focus—he senses an opportunity for us as a club, not just for himself, to achieve success this season.”

 

Postecoglou also acknowledged Davies’ recent performances, highlighting the defender’s growing influence within the squad.

 

 

“Ben Davies is another player who has really stepped up in recent times.

 

These are two guys who have been at the club for a long time and understand what success would mean for Tottenham.

 

“For Sonny, especially, given everything he has done for this club, winning a trophy would be more than deserved.

 

But beyond personal achievements, both of them recognize how significant it would be for the club as a whole.

 

They are determined to be part of a successful Tottenham team.”

 

Trophy Drought Not a Burden for Players

Spurs have now gone 17 years without a trophy, and with every passing season, the pressure to win silverware increases.

 

Son and Davies understand the weight of expectation from the club and its supporters.

 

However, Postecoglou insists that this history is not something that weighs heavily on his players.

 

The Spurs manager explained, “I don’t get the sense that Sonny or Ben feel burdened by it.

They don’t have any fear of falling short or feel like something is missing. If anything, they are just as optimistic as everyone else about what we can achieve.

 

“As for the younger players in the squad, they don’t need to carry the weight of what this club has or hasn’t done over the past 14 or 15 years.

 

They weren’t here for that. Their job is simply to focus on changing the narrative and making their own history.”

 

Tonight’s match at Anfield represents another opportunity for Spurs to take a step closer to ending their long wait for silverware.

 

With experienced leaders like Son and Davies guiding the younger players, Postecoglou hopes this could be the season Tottenham finally breaks their trophy drought.
