Ghanaian media reacts to Kudus’ performance as West Ham star features in surprise result against minnows

Mohammed Kudus has struggled to find his best form for West Ham this season, particularly after a clash with manager Julen Lopetegui, who substituted him at halftime during the 2-2 draw against Brentford on Saturday, September 28.

Despite this, Kudus helped the Ghana national team secure a point in their 0-0 draw against Sudan. Ghana now sits third in their group standings.

The Ghanaian media had mixed reactions to Kudus’ performance, with some outlets praising his efforts while others felt he could have done better.

The Daily Mail Ghana (October 10) commended Kudus for his impact on the match, highlighting his powerful shot in the second half.

“Kudus was Ghana’s main creative force throughout the game, constantly trying to unlock Sudan’s defense,” they noted.

One standout moment was when Kudus unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, forcing Sudan’s goalkeeper Mustafa to make an excellent save.

Similarly, the Ghanaian Times (October 10) echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Kudus was a “constant threat” to Sudan’s defense.

They highlighted his pace and aggression, noting how he frequently challenged defenders with one-on-one situations.

However, the online outlet Ghana Web (October 10) had a different view, suggesting that Kudus was not at his best.

They mentioned that the West Ham forward missed the game’s biggest chance and failed to live up to his usual standard in the number 10 role.

At West Ham, Kudus is yet to replicate the form that made him one of the club’s standout players last season, alongside Jarrod Bowen.

The pair were instrumental in securing a ninth-place finish for the Hammers last term, compensating for the team’s defensive frailties.

West Ham ended the season with the fourth-worst defensive record in the Premier League, only finishing above the three relegated sides in that category.

So far, the Hammers’ current campaign hasn’t met expectations.

Lopetegui’s team is currently in 12th place in the league, and while Bowen has continued his strong performances, Kudus has not been able to maintain his previous levels of contribution.

This could partly explain the team’s underwhelming start.
