Cresswell is now in limbo at the start of pre-season, seemingly available for transfer if the right offer comes in. Leeds’ willingness to sell Cresswell leaves the club short of defensive options. Joe Rodon has joined on a permanent deal, but he remains the only senior right-footed centre-back for the upcoming season.

It is uncertain whether Rasmus Kristensen and Max Wöber will stay to strengthen the back four, but this situation presents an opportunity for the 49ers and the recruitment team. While Rodon is a guaranteed starter, depth behind him could be bolstered by signing a young player content to be second in the pecking order.

Leeds’ revamped recruitment setup could find a long-term, low-cost signing to reinforce the squad without immediate concerns, as Rodon is secured. Alternatively, the money from a potential Cresswell sale could be allocated to another necessary signing, either in defense or further up the pitch.
