Craig Moore suggests Nikola Katic could make a return to Rangers during the winter transfer window.
The former Rangers player has suggested that the Bosnian defender could make a return to Ibrox in the near future, after leaving the club permanently in 2022.
Katic’s name has resurfaced as Rangers seek to strengthen their defense, especially with key defenders John Souttar, Leon Balogun, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo all sidelined due to injuries.
On the Go Radio Football Show (6 January), Moore commented: “A central defender that Rangers need, and one that has been mentioned recently, is Katic.
He was a solid player for the club. Unfortunately, he suffered an ACL injury and went to Croatia to regain his fitness.
“How would the fans feel about Katic returning? It’s crucial that any player brought in to fill the central defender role is ready to perform immediately.
There’s no time for a lengthy transition period. They need to deliver now, and Katic certainly fits that profile.”
Katic remains a fan favorite, particularly after scoring the decisive goal at Parkhead against Celtic in 2019.
Having joined Rangers in 2018 under Steven Gerrard, the 28-year-old was an important figure until a serious injury disrupted his progress.
After a loan spell at Hajduk Split during the 2021/22 season, the Bosnian left the club.
Katic has since regained full fitness at FC Zurich, and with Rangers facing a defensive crisis, he could provide the necessary reinforcement.
Recently, manager Philippe Clement has had to rely on the pairing of Dujon Sterling and Robin Propper in central defense, with Leon King also filling in during the 3-3 draw with Hibernian after Sterling was forced off with an injury.
Clinton Nsiala, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2024, has only played for the B team so far this season.
As Rangers remain in the Europa League and Scottish Cup, adding new signings in January could enhance their chances of success in both competitions.
