Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara has shared his excitement over recent reports linking Scott Parker with the Spurs managerial role.
O’Hara, who played alongside Parker at Fulham, expressed his support for his former teammate potentially taking over from Ange Postecoglou this summer.
Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham has been troubled, with the club enduring a particularly poor Premier League campaign.
Their recent home loss to Nottingham Forest marked a record eighth defeat at home this season — the most in the Premier League era for the club.
As a result, speculation has grown over his future, and Parker has emerged as a surprise candidate to step into the role.
Parker’s managerial stock is currently on the rise after leading Burnley to Premier League promotion with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United.
It marks his third promotion in as many years, having previously guided Fulham and Bournemouth to the top flight.
Speaking on talkSPORT, O’Hara praised Parker’s leadership and managerial qualities.
“This is interesting – it says Ange could leave this summer and Spurs are keeping an eye on Parker,” O’Hara said. “I think I’d like Scott Parker at Tottenham.
There’s something about him. I’ve worked with Scott, been in the dressing room with him.
He’s a top bloke and was a brilliant captain. I like his football and identity.”
O’Hara did acknowledge that it might be too soon for Parker to take on such a major job but argued that Tottenham could provide the perfect platform.
“Is it a step too far early on? Maybe, but maybe he needs a club like Tottenham. I think he’d do alright – I wouldn’t mind it,” he added.
Tottenham’s hopes for this season now hinge on their Europa League run. A successful campaign could land them a spot in next season’s Champions League and deliver their first piece of silverware in 17 years.
They must first overcome Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals before a potential final against either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.
However, even a successful run might not be enough to save Postecoglou’s job, according to reports.
