Paul Robinson believes former Huddersfield Town star Lewis O’Brien wouldn’t be a significant loss for Leeds United in the transfer market.
Lewis O’Brien, currently on loan at LAFC in the MLS from Nottingham Forest, is reportedly set to reject a move to Leeds United in favor of a £7 million permanent transfer to the United States, according to The Sun.
O’Brien, who was a key player for Huddersfield Town during their Championship campaigns before joining Nottingham Forest, now appears unlikely to head to Elland Road.
Despite his experience in England’s second tier, his future seems firmly rooted in the MLS.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, former Leeds player Paul Robinson commented on the situation: “I’m not sure if he’s a player the manager would want.
I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed [about missing out]. Looking at the current team, he’s not someone who would go straight into the starting XI.
Yes, he has Championship experience, but he’s not a game-changer for Leeds. I wouldn’t consider it a significant miss.”
Leeds United Unlikely to Pursue O’Brien
While O’Brien has proven himself in the Championship, he has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023.
Given Leeds United’s goal of securing promotion, the club is likely focused on players who can make an immediate impact.
Even with injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, Leeds has strengthened its squad with the additions of Ao Tanaka, Joe Rothwell, and Josuha Guilavogui, providing sufficient depth to sustain their push for promotion.
O’Brien, meanwhile, appears content with life in the MLS, making his decision to pursue a permanent move to America unsurprising.
A transfer to Leeds no longer seems likely, with both parties moving in different directions.
