Pundit’s Take: Everton Target ‘Destined’ for Premier League, But Club Reluctant to Approve Exit

Football League World pundit Palmer sees Fellows as “destined” for the Premier League but argues that West Brom would be “foolish” to let him go mid-season.

In a statement to Football League World on 30 October, Palmer noted: “Tom Fellows has been outstanding for West Brom, and Everton have had their eye on him for a while.

The 21-year-old is an England under-21 international, and any potential move would depend on Everton securing a cash injection, as they’re in the midst of a takeover.”

Palmer explained that while West Brom may have anticipated a summer transfer, they are now keen to retain Fellows, especially given his impressive start to the season and their goal of achieving promotion.

He added, “Fellows is one of their most valuable players, and losing him mid-season would be a big blow.

West Brom recently had their own takeover, and under Carlos Corberan, the team has been performing well. Selling him now just wouldn’t make sense.”

West Brom has a strong position regarding Fellows, as he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension that runs through summer 2027.

Palmer acknowledged that if Fellows moves to Everton, he would likely get Premier League exposure, which aligns with his potential.

“While it could be a great opportunity for him and a smart buy for Everton, West Brom would be unwise to consider a sale at this time,” Palmer concluded.

Could Tom Fellows Make a Move Amid Everton’s Interest?

Everton isn’t expected to have a substantial budget for the January transfer window, even if the Friedkin Group completes its takeover before then.

As a result, manager Sean Dyche and his recruitment team may focus on the Championship for talent, making Fellows a viable option given his impressive performances at The Hawthorns.

Having recently broken into Carlos Corberan’s first team, the 21-year-old has quickly established himself as a key player, with his speed and work rate proving invaluable to West Brom this season.

However, acquiring Fellows will likely come at a significant cost, as West Brom will not part with him cheaply.

Yet, if Everton matches West Brom’s valuation, it may be difficult for them to turn down the offer.
