Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stepped up their efforts to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters, with the club aiming to strengthen their homegrown quota following qualification for the Champions League.

Football Insider reports that contact has already been made with the Southampton full-back’s agent, as Spurs explore a move for the 28-year-old, who previously spent five years with the North London side before moving to the south coast in 2020.

Mick Brown, a former chief scout at both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, and someone still highly connected within English football, revealed the latest developments.

He confirmed that Spurs have initiated discussions, but they’re far from alone—several other Premier League clubs are also in the frame, having been alerted by the player’s contractual situation.

Brown previously told Football Insider back in January that Walker-Peters was unlikely to renew with Southampton, sparking interest from the likes of West Ham United and Everton.

Now, as the summer window heats up, West Ham are believed to be preparing a formal offer to sign Walker-Peters once he becomes a free agent on July 1.

According to Brown, the Hammers have been long-time admirers and view the defender as a quality addition. However, with Tottenham closely monitoring the situation, a battle is underway for his signature.

“Kyle Walker-Peters was one of Southampton’s standout performers this season, despite the club’s struggles,” said Brown. “It’s no surprise that clubs are lining up to get him on a free.

He’s proven he’s still at a Premier League level and could contribute meaningfully to several sides.”

Brown added that Tottenham have maintained close watch on their former academy graduate and believe he fits their long-term squad strategy, especially with UEFA homegrown requirements in mind.

“They know everything there is to know about him,” Brown said. “He’s a product of their system, and those types of players are valuable in European competitions.”

He also mentioned Brentford boss Thomas Frank may view Walker-Peters as an upgrade on his current full-back options, and other interested clubs will likely engage the player’s camp in discussions over playing time and salary expectations.

While Spurs appear to be in pole position given their familiarity with the player and recent Champions League qualification, Brown stressed that the decision will ultimately rest with Walker-Peters.

“Tottenham might be the most attractive destination, but it all depends on what Kyle wants at this stage in his career.”

In addition to Walker-Peters, Spurs continue to pursue reinforcements elsewhere, with Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo also on their radar.

Football Insider reported on 23 June that the Cherries will demand £70 million for the 24-year-old Ghanaian, who has attracted significant interest across Europe.

Bournemouth are already preparing for the possibility of Semenyo’s departure.

The club is reshaping its squad after allowing Dean Huijsen to join Real Madrid, while left-back Milos Kerkez is close to a move to Liverpool.

Centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi also remains a priority target for PSG, indicating that Bournemouth may undergo major changes this summer.

Tottenham’s interest in Semenyo, first reported on 15 June, faces significant challenges due to the player’s price tag and growing competition.

However, he remains a key name on their summer shortlist as the club looks to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts next season.
