Rangers were forced to settle for another 1-1 draw in the Scottish Premiership, this time against St Mirren on Sunday afternoon, leaving them with just three points from three matches.

Manager Russell Martin may soon be boosted by the arrival of Bojan Miovski, who has reportedly been told he is not part of Girona’s plans.

With a move to Ibrox gaining momentum as the transfer deadline approaches, the Glasgow side could secure a much-needed reinforcement in attack.

The stalemate with St Mirren highlighted several problems Martin must address early in his tenure.

While Champions League qualification has provided some relief, domestic form has been far from convincing.

All three of Rangers’ league outings so far have ended in 1-1 draws, and the lack of a cutting edge in front of goal is a growing concern.

The most surprising aspect of Sunday’s game was Martin’s decision to start Theo Aasgaard, naturally an attacking midfielder, as his lone striker.

With Cyriel Dessers sidelined through injury and Hamza Igamane claiming a knock despite being named on the bench, the manager’s lack of options was laid bare.

Statistically, Rangers dominated the contest, enjoying 71 per cent possession. Yet both teams registered 17 shots each, underlining how wasteful the Light Blues were.

Neither side has managed a league win this season, a frustration Rangers desperately want to put behind them.

The expected arrival of Miovski could ease some of these issues. BBC Sport pundit Tom English summed up the situation bluntly on 24 August, following the draw at the SMISA Stadium:

“There’s talk of them trying to get Bojan Miovski on loan from Girona. Lord, do they need him.

If Igamane has downed tools and Danilo is, well, Danilo, then they have precious little up front. Cyriel Dessers is injured.

They need a whole lot more. Against St Mirren, they went without a natural centre-forward. It’s a mess.”

While his stint in Spain has been disappointing, Miovski’s record in Scotland is far more encouraging.

The North Macedonian striker scored only four goals in all competitions for Girona last season and often struggled for game time.

He even started their first match of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign, only to be withdrawn before half-time.

However, his previous spell with Aberdeen was far more productive. Miovski netted 44 goals across 98 appearances, including 16 league strikes in the 2022/23 season.

Rangers are hopeful he can rediscover that form at Ibrox and provide the consistent firepower they are sorely lacking.

Although Martin has called for the transfer window to close to end speculation, securing Miovski’s arrival appears crucial if Rangers are to sharpen their attack and finally turn draws into victories.
