Rangers midfielder Burnside has extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option for an additional year.

The Northern Ireland under-19 international is currently on loan at Alloa Athletic in Scottish League One, where he has already registered one assist in two appearances since joining earlier this month.

Before his loan move, Burnside impressed for Rangers’ under-19s, contributing seven goals and assists in as many matches.

Speaking to Rangers’ official website, Burnside expressed his delight after signing the new deal:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have extended my contract at the club.

It’s a proud moment for me and my family, and I’m so grateful to Rangers for the belief they’ve shown in me.

As a boyhood fan, it’s a privilege to wear the jersey every day. I know there’s still a lot of hard work ahead, but I’m determined to keep improving and make the most of this opportunity.”

The 18-year-old’s loan to Alloa is a straightforward temporary move, despite Rangers having a co-operation agreement with the third-tier club. His deal runs until January.

Meanwhile, Burnside’s former under-19s coach, Stevie Smith, will take charge of Rangers’ first team for their upcoming Scottish Premiership match against Dundee United at Ibrox this weekend.

Smith is scheduled to address the media at a press conference on Friday at 9am, followed by a player interview at 9.15am. He will be supported on the touchline by Brian Gilmour, Rhys Owen, and Sal Bibbo.
