Although their campaign is already underway, Rangers remain active in the transfer market and are now reportedly targeting a set-piece specialist to bolster their squad.
Rangers look to build on Plzen victory
After opening their Scottish Premiership season with a draw against Motherwell, the squad experienced Russell Martin’s sharp response.
They reacted positively, however, as a heavily rotated lineup dismantled Viktoria Plzen in midweek, giving the Gers a commanding position in their Champions League qualifier against the Czech side.

“Moore’s not available yet — there are a lot of protocols to clear for under-18s. Hamza missed two weeks with visa issues, then picked up a minor injury in his first match, so we’re easing him back to avoid setbacks. He’s a great lad and just needs to get fully fit.”
Even in the absence of these three, Rangers should still have enough quality to secure the points.
New arrival Oliver Antman, fresh from an eye-catching Scottish Premiership debut, will be one to watch following his midweek display.
Transfer business still on the table
Off the pitch, Rangers continue to explore new additions. The club — alongside the 49ers ownership group — has been linked with Nobel Mendy as they look to strengthen their defence.
Reports also suggest they are considering a move to bring a set-piece specialist back to Scotland.
Rangers in pursuit of Jordan Holsgrove
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Rangers are pushing to sign Jordan Holsgrove from Portuguese outfit Estoril.
The 25-year-old midfielder is known for his dead-ball ability and is believed to have a low release clause, making him an attainable and potentially cost-effective target.
However, the Gers face competition from Hibernian and Hearts for his signature.
Holsgrove’s career has been far from straightforward. A Reading academy graduate, he moved abroad to join Celta Vigo in Spain, later spending time with Olympiakos in Greece before settling in Portugal with Estoril.
Now, with his prime years ahead, a return to Scotland could be on the cards if Rangers act swiftly.
Analyst John Walker has described Holsgrove as a “must-have” signing, suggesting that his arrival could represent one of the club’s smartest deals of the summer.
His precision from set-pieces could add a fresh dimension to Russell Martin’s side, offering a new attacking weapon to complement their existing options.
If the deal goes through, Holsgrove’s homecoming could be a key moment in Rangers’ bid to challenge for honours both domestically and in Europe this season.
