Brazil has announced its 23-man squad for the upcoming matches against Argentina and Colombia, with Newcastle United midfielders Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton both earning call-ups.

The duo will depart after the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool next weekend to join their national team for crucial World Cup qualifiers.

For Joelinton, this marks a significant return to the Brazil squad, as he has not been selected since November 2023.

His absence throughout 2024 was largely due to a series of injuries that disrupted his season.

Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Joelinton received plenty of support, with fellow Brazilian Matheus Cunha among those responding.

Cunha commented “Joga muitooooo” along with a burning heart emoji, catching the attention of fans.

Cunha himself will also be joining the Brazil squad alongside the Newcastle duo, adding to his 11 international caps.

However, his name has also been circulating in transfer rumors, with reports linking him to a move to Newcastle United.

His versatility as a player—capable of operating on the wing, through the middle, or even in midfield—has led many to view him as a strong potential addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.

The 25-year-old forward has been a standout performer for Wolves this season, scoring 15 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

His impressive form has only fueled speculation about a summer move, though Wolves are in a strong position to negotiate after securing him on a contract extension.

If the club remains in the Premier League, they will be in a favorable position to command a high transfer fee.

Despite his talent, Cunha has made headlines for disciplinary issues in recent months.

In December, he was charged by the FA following an altercation with a member of Ipswich Town’s coaching staff, leading to a two-match suspension.

More recently, during Wolves’ FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth, he was sent off and subsequently charged by the FA for acting in an improper manner after an incident involving Cherries defender Milos Kerkez.

As a result, he is set to miss Wolves’ next three matches against Everton, Southampton, and West Ham.

Any additional punishment could extend his absence, potentially ruling him out of a crucial relegation battle against Ipswich Town.

In other squad news, Neymar has also been included in Brazil’s latest selection. Currently back at his boyhood club Santos, the former Barcelona and PSG star has not played for his national team since October 2023.

Meanwhile, Joao Pedro, who recently helped Brighton secure a win at St James’ Park, has earned a call-up as well.
