Rangers-Linked International Finalizes Transfer Following Claims of Recent Contact from Gers

Rangers fans are familiar with the ongoing social media discussions about former players who didn’t quite achieve the sustained success the club desired during their time at Ibrox.

While Ryan Kent looks set for a move to Iran, another player, once thought to be better the longer he stayed away from Rangers, has now sealed a permanent deal elsewhere.

Rangers Linked to Nikola Katic

As injuries plagued the Rangers defense over the festive period, the name Nikola Katic resurfaced in the tabloids.

Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson reported that Rangers had made contact with Katic following injuries to John Souttar, Leon Balogun, Dujon Sterling, and James Tavernier.

With Katic being told he could leave FC Zurich, sources close to the player even suggested his interest in returning to Ibrox.

This isn’t the first time Rangers have been connected with a move for the defender. Former player Craig Moore revealed that the club turned down the opportunity to re-sign Katic in the summer.

The towering 6ft4 defender was a fan favorite during his three-year spell at Rangers, which was unfortunately cut short by a cruciate ligament injury in 2020.

After a loan stint at Hajduk Split in 2021, Katic moved to FC Zurich in Switzerland, where he has been playing ever since.

While Katic could have been a valuable addition to Rangers’ defense during the injury crisis in December and January, all the speculation about a return has now been put to rest.

Nikola Katic Moves to Plymouth Argyle

Katic has officially joined Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season.

The Bosnian international will link up with Bosnian manager Miron Muslic as the Pilgrims fight to avoid relegation from the Championship.

Muslic praised Katic for showing a real desire to join the club, emphasizing his “excellent pedigree” having represented his country and played European football.

Muslic said, “Nikola joins us with excellent pedigree, having represented his country and played European football.

He will add further height and defensive strength to our options, but most of all, he showed a real desire to be part of Argyle for the rest of the season.

I’ve said before that I want players in the squad who want to be here, and Nikola demonstrated exactly that. I’m really happy he’s joined us and want to welcome him to Argyle.”

Rangers, meanwhile, chose to sign Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille in January, and some pundits believe the Portuguese defender could prove to be a gem for the club.
