A Champions League-winning forward has emerged as “one to watch” for Rangers, with manager Danny Rohl reportedly eyeing ambitious reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window at Ibrox.

Rohl’s tenure began in the worst possible fashion on Thursday night, as Rangers suffered a heavy 3-0 loss away to Brann in the Europa League, extending what has been a miserable start to their campaign.
After the game, the new manager did not hide his frustration with his team’s display, expressing both his disappointment and a heartfelt apology to the travelling supporters.

He continued, “It was a great welcome before the game, and you always hope to repay that with three points and a positive performance. It makes me sad that I couldn’t.
That’s why I went over to the fans at full-time — to show them the respect they deserve. We must understand that our supporters are patient, but we can’t expect them to stay happy when we perform like this.”
The result underlined the need for reinforcements at Ibrox, with the squad in desperate need of added quality.
According to reports, chairman Andrew Cavenagh is prepared to financially back Rohl in the winter window, and a high-profile name has now been linked.
Rangers tipped to target Champions League winner
During Hotline Live [via Ibrox News], Daily Record journalist Daniel Caw suggested that RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner could be a realistic transfer target for Rangers — thanks to a personal connection within the club.
“Lense is Werner’s father-in-law — the new Rangers performance manager,” Caw explained. “So that’s maybe one to watch.”
Werner, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances for Germany, would represent a major coup for the Scottish giants.
Now 29, he may not be in his peak years, but his work rate, pace, and movement remain formidable.
Even former Manchester United captain Roy Keane once admitted, “He’s a nuisance to play against. There are question marks about his final product, but he always affects games.”
If Rohl can use the Sascha Lense connection to lure Werner to Ibrox in January, it would be a statement signing — and a huge lift for Rangers’ faltering season.
Whether Werner would leave Leipzig mid-campaign, however, remains uncertain.
