Leicester City manager Steve Cooper would generally support the proposed change to the summer transfer window deadline if it were implemented.

According to The Sunday Times, Premier League clubs are set to discuss closing the summer transfer window before the season begins, with August 15 being the suggested final day for transfers next term.

This plan was previously introduced but only lasted one summer, primarily because the rest of Europe did not follow suit.

As a result, Premier League clubs were vulnerable to losing players for about three weeks without being able to sign replacements.

However, this time it appears the rest of Europe may align with the change.

Cooper sees both advantages and disadvantages but seems to lean toward having all transfers completed before the season starts.

When asked in the summer if he preferred the window to close before the season’s first game, Cooper responded, “It depends on which players you sign! Sometimes you feel like you could use another week.”

He added, “In general, if it was a level playing field and there was enough time to complete deals, of course.

But there are pros and cons to closing it early, just as there are to the current system.”

Under the current arrangement, teams can play their first few games before the transfer window closes at the end of August, allowing time to evaluate their squads in competitive matches.

This often leads to unexpected business, as clubs adjust their transfer plans based on early performances or injuries.

Cooper acknowledged this, saying, “Sometimes the first two or three games lead to a reaction, whether due to injuries or learning something about the team that makes you feel the need to add or change.

That can happen. But ideally, you’d want everything settled before the season starts, and maybe there’s a case for that.”
