“His attitude’s terrific. He’s a wide player with a lot of technical qualities, but he’s working very hard for the team. I think Rangers—he’s a cracking player—they’ll definitely want him to stay.”
Why Rangers Must Keep Hagi
Davidson’s assessment rings true. Hagi has been an important figure for Ferguson’s side, contributing three goals and five assists across 23 league appearances.
Rather than letting him leave, Rangers should prioritise extending the 26-year-old’s contract and move on from less effective squad members.
As Davidson noted, Hagi brings more than just technical skill—his work ethic is exceptional. That was evident in his composed equaliser at Pittodrie, scored despite the team being a man down.
Moreover, in the Europa League clash against Bilbao on 10 April, Hagi demonstrated his commitment by tracking back relentlessly to defend after Robin Propper received a red card.
His efforts were crucial in helping the ten-man Gers hold Ernesto Valverde’s side to a 0-0 draw.
Rangers will need that same determination and quality from Hagi in the return leg in Spain.
A standout performance could not only help the team progress but also strengthen his case for a new deal at Ibrox.
While players like Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland struggled against Aberdeen and should be under pressure to perform, Hagi has shown he deserves to be part of Rangers’ long-term plans.
