Rangers have several young prospects capable of becoming the next Curtis, and Condy now joins that pool of talent, as reported by RFC Youth Updates.

The young forward had drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton.

Fulham even invited him for a training session in August 2024, according to the Daily Record. Despite that strong competition, Rangers appear to have landed his signature.

The club’s youth account confirmed the news on X on 12 September with the message: “Welcome to Rangers Chris Condy.”

Rebuilding identity with homegrown talent

At present, Rangers lack some of the identity that once defined them, which is partly due to the shortage of top Scottish players in their ranks.

Historically, the most successful Rangers sides relied heavily on academy products such as Allan McGregor, Barry Ferguson and Ally McCoist — all of whom lifted numerous trophies at Ibrox.

McCoist won 10 league titles and 10 other major honours with the club.

McGregor claimed four league titles, four Scottish Cups and five League Cups.

Ferguson collected five league titles alongside five Scottish Cups and five League Cups.

In recent years, however, Rangers have shifted focus away from their academy and the domestic market, often overlooking talents like Lewis Ferguson, Lawrence Shankland and Josh Doig in favour of signings from abroad.

While recruits such as Nicolas Raskin, Hamza Igamane and Mohamed Diomande have added quality, the team has arguably lost some of the passion and heart associated with homegrown players.

With 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh at the helm, there is an urgent need to revitalise the academy and restore its former standards.

Rangers must once again make Auchenhowie a production line for the best Scottish talent — a foundation on which to build future trophy-winning squads.
