Wolves Eye Premier League Title-Winning Hero as Potential Replacement for Arsenal-Linked Star

Wolves might enter the market for a new goalkeeper this summer due to uncertainty surrounding Dan Bentley’s future.

The 30-year-old Bentley, who joined Wolves from Bristol City in January 2023, has attracted interest from Arsenal as a potential back-up option for the next season, according to The Athletic.

Arsenal have reportedly contacted Wolves about Bentley’s availability, though no bid has been submitted yet. The Gunners are seeking to add more experience to their goalkeeping roster and see Bentley as an ideal candidate. They recently made David Raya’s loan deal from Brentford permanent and are expected to sell Aaron Ramsdale, who is dissatisfied with his role as a backup.

Wolves are keen to keep Bentley and will only consider selling him if they receive an offer that allows them to reinvest in their squad. Bentley has made just five appearances for Wolves since his arrival, debuting in a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal. Despite only three league starts last season, he is highly regarded by manager Gary O’Neil.

According to transfer specialist Alan Nixon (via his Patreon page), Wolves are preparing for Bentley’s potential departure and are considering Kasper Schmeichel as a replacement. The 37-year-old Schmeichel, a free agent after leaving Anderlecht, has extensive Premier League experience, notably winning the title with Leicester City in the 2015/16 season.

Schmeichel made 414 league appearances during his 11-year tenure with Leicester, during which he also won the FA Cup, the Championship, and the Community Shield. Known for his leadership, he often captained the Foxes and has been capped 105 times for Denmark, making him seventh in the list of all-time cap winners for the national team.

Wolves are among several clubs monitoring Schmeichel, with reports from Glasgow World suggesting that former boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in reuniting with him at Celtic.
