Raskin Reveals Unforgettable Rangers Moment and Future Return to Boyhood Club

After two and a half years in Glasgow, Nicolas Raskin has truly come into his own this season, establishing himself as a tenacious force in the heart of the Rangers midfield.

Known for his high energy, aggressive pressing, and ability to disrupt opposition play, Raskin has become a vital cog in Rangers’ engine room.

His tireless work ethic and defensive contributions have helped drive the team forward, earning him comparisons to Gennaro Gattuso when he first arrived at Ibrox.

His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed.

Raskin received his first call-up to the Belgian national team earlier this season and made his debut start in a friendly against Ukraine, where he held his own on the international stage.

While representing his country was a major milestone, Raskin admits that one moment in a Rangers shirt stands out above all: scoring in a famous Old Firm victory against Celtic at Parkhead.

During the last international break, Raskin was selected for Belgium ahead of Celtic’s Arne Engels—adding an extra layer of satisfaction to what came next.

In a historic derby match at Celtic Park, Raskin opened the scoring with a memorable header, connecting perfectly with a James Tavernier corner to guide the ball into the far corner.

Speaking about the moment, Raskin told Belgian outlet RTBF: “I’m not the tallest, so they never wanted me to go up for corners.

I argued with the staff to let me go. That day, the ball came in perfectly. I jumped at the near post and put it in.

It was emotional. Scoring at your rival’s ground, you hear their fans go quiet and only yours celebrating. That’s something I’ll remember forever.”

Despite his growing stature at Rangers and his emergence on the international scene, Raskin hasn’t forgotten where it all began.

Standard Liège remains the club closest to his heart. The Belgian side is not only his boyhood team but also a place he envisions returning to one day.

Although Rangers swooped in to sign Raskin in January 2023—beating off reported interest from clubs like Barcelona and Napoli—there was no shortage of suitors in Belgium either.

Among them was Club Brugge, but Raskin says he turned them all down to preserve his dream of returning to Standard Liège.

“Standard will always be my favorite club,” Raskin stated. “Just last Sunday, I was at home, and I had a choice of games to watch. I chose Standard away at Dender.

I still feel that bond and stay in touch with many players there. It’s a club I want to come back to.”

He added, “When I left Belgium, I rejected offers from several teams because I didn’t want to go anywhere else. If I return, it’ll be to Standard.”

For now, Raskin’s focus is on Rangers and continuing his rise, but it’s clear his heart still beats for his first footballing love.
