“Really?” – Martin Allen Ridicules Transfer Speculation Surrounding West Ham Star, ‘As Kit Man?’
Martin Allen Mocks Edson Alvarez Amid Speculation of a Move from West Ham to AC Milan

Former West Ham player Allen took to X on 4 January to respond to a fan’s claim that Edson Alvarez was “meant to be going to AC Milan” following the Mexican midfielder’s poor performance against Manchester City.
Alvarez was heavily criticized for “ducking out” of a defensive header that contributed to City’s first goal in their 4-1 victory [Daily Mirror, 8 October].
Allen sarcastically questioned Milan’s interest, saying: “Going to AC Milan… Really? As (the) kit man, or in the ticket office?”

The criticism comes amid speculation of Alvarez’s potential departure from West Ham.
Many Hammers fans expressed frustration with his performance, echoing the old footballing phrase, “I’ll drive him there myself.”
Alvarez is one of several West Ham players struggling this season, with Mohammed Kudus also reportedly at odds with manager Julen Lopetegui and seeking an exit [GiveMeSport, 6 December].
Both Alvarez and Kudus arrived at West Ham in the summer of 2023 from Ajax, but neither has lived up to expectations.
Despite Alvarez’s inconsistent form, reports suggest that AC Milan is considering a swap deal involving former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Such a deal might appeal to West Ham, given Lopetegui’s ongoing challenges in achieving midfield stability.
While Alvarez’s performances this season have been particularly underwhelming, it’s surprising that a club like Milan—competing in Serie A and European competitions—would remain interested.
However, with West Ham’s struggles continuing, a January exit for Alvarez seems increasingly likely.
