Report: £10m-Rated Player Wanted by Nottingham Forest and Cooper, Now Stripped of Shirt Number

One of the names linked with Nottingham Forest is Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, although this seems like a long shot.

It’s somewhat surprising that Forest are pursuing another goalkeeper, having already signed Carlos Miguel during the off-season.

Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner is attracting interest from the Bundesliga, suggesting that another goalkeeper is being considered as cover. One name linked with a move to Forest appears to have inched closer to the exit door today.

Sam Johnstone, who has been linked with Forest, received a setback at Crystal Palace. Oliver Glasner was considered for the Forest managerial role after Steve Cooper’s sacking, but the club chose Nuno Espirito Santo instead. Glasner, now making waves at Palace, has changed his number one goalkeeper.

Last season, Johnstone started as Palace’s primary goalkeeper while Dean Henderson recovered from a thigh injury.

However, poor form led Glasner to rotate his goalkeepers, and he has now given the number one shirt to Henderson for the new season, as confirmed by the Daily Mail.

At 31 years old, Johnstone would likely cost Forest around £10 million if they wish to sign him from Palace.

Other clubs, including Southampton and Wolves, are also interested in him, according to David Ornstein, who provided an update last week.

Johnstone has extensive Premier League experience, having made 66 appearances for various clubs.

Forest, however, must offload a goalkeeper before signing another.

Chelsea currently have nine goalkeepers, and while Forest aren’t at that level, they need to manage their roster effectively.

Turner seems the most obvious candidate to leave, but at 32 years old, Matz Sels might also consider moving if he isn’t guaranteed regular football.

Johnstone would be an interesting addition, though he doesn’t align perfectly with Forest’s recruitment model this summer. Ramsdale might be a better fit, but signing him could be more challenging.

If Nuno Espirito Santo is intent on signing a new goalkeeper, that’s understandable. However, Forest must ensure they don’t accumulate too many goalkeepers, with Premier League squad regulations to consider.
