Everton's Summer Acquisitions Have Impressed Fans with the New Depth in the Squad
Since the arrival of Jake O’Brien, there has been a notable lack of activity in the transfer market, suggesting that the Toffees’ options might be running dry.
To make new acquisitions now, despite the £50 million sale of Amadou Onana, Everton will almost certainly need to offload players. This necessity could be problematic, as departures in several key areas could significantly weaken the squad.
One particular area of concern is the attack, where there are worries that Dominic Calvert-Lewin might leave Everton due to a contract stalemate and a deal set to expire next summer.
However, it might be his striking counterpart who could be on the move instead. According to Italian outlet Tutto Atalanta, the Bergamo-based club is planning to make a transfer offer for Everton’s Beto.
With Champions League football secured again, Atalanta has already strengthened their squad this summer, including acquiring Everton’s Ben Godfrey.
Now, they are reportedly preparing a bid for the Portuguese striker, aiming to secure him for around €20 million (£17 million), despite Everton having paid £26 million for him just a year ago.
Beto’s attributes make him a good fit for Atalanta’s style of play under Gian Piero Gasperini, intensifying their interest in the striker.
Sean Dyche would be reluctant to lose one of his key attackers for several reasons, notably his evident appreciation for Beto.
Even though Dyche favored Calvert-Lewin throughout the Premier League campaign, he praised Beto, particularly in the early months of his Everton career. Dyche remarked: “He’s adapted very quickly, done very well tonight.
With all due respect, the Premier League is different, but he’s shown the rawness, the pace, and the impact he can have on a team. He gives us something different, which is why we brought him here.”
Additionally, with Youssef Chermiti recently undergoing foot surgery and no set return date, losing another striker would be detrimental. Moreover, Calvert-Lewin’s ongoing contract dispute adds further uncertainty.
Given these factors, there is a significant risk that Everton could start the new campaign, which begins in less than two weeks, without all three of their strikers.
For these reasons, it is crucial that Everton does not allow Beto to leave this summer.
