Report: Club Eyes Leeds Star as Replacement for £50m Player Linked to Arsenal

Leeds Could Lose Star Player as He's Shortlisted to Replace Arsenal Target

The transfer season is in full swing following the conclusion of UEFA Euro 2024. Arsenal is set to announce the signing of Tommy Setford from Ajax soon, and a deal for Riccardo Calafiori is also expected to go through for the Gunners. But which Leeds star might leave Elland Road to replace a player wanted by Arsenal? Let’s explore further.

Rennes are interested in Leeds No.10 Crysencio Summerville as a replacement for Arsenal target Désiré Doué. According to a report from Foot Mercato in France, Rennes are preparing to lose Doué, who is also attracting interest from PSG and Bayern Munich. Rennes are now ready to compete with Chelsea to sign Summerville.

The Dutchman is likely to leave Elland Road after Leeds failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Foot Mercato states that Daniel Farke’s side is seeking at least €20m (£17m) for Summerville. Regarding Doué, a report from L’Equipe suggests that Rennes want £50m for the 19-year-old this summer.

Mikel Arteta would surely welcome the 19-year-old at the Emirates Stadium. Since taking over from Unai Emery, Arteta has utilized players in various roles at Arsenal, focusing on versatility. For instance, Oleksandr Zinchenko has been used in an inverted midfield role and as a natural left-back, while Ben White has transitioned from a central defender to a marauding right-back. Declan Rice has been deployed both as a No.6 and an attacking No.8 under Arteta.

Doué, who can play across the attack, could be a significant asset for Arsenal. Last season, the teenager played in six different attacking positions for Rennes, as shown by Transfermarkt. This versatility would allow Arteta to deploy him in various roles depending on the opponent.

Keep an eye on this situation, as Arsenal could bring Doué to north London this summer.
