Report: European powerhouse to fast-track pursuit of Newcastle transfer target

Newcastle United likely to stay active in search of a new defender.

Newcastle United’s defense has largely impressed this season, but their 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday highlighted some significant issues.

This performance served as a reminder of why the club prioritized signing a new center-back last summer.

The Magpies pursued Marc Guehi during a lengthy transfer saga but failed to secure his services, leaving them with limited options as the transfer window closed.

Since then, other players have been linked to the club, including AC Milan and England defender Fikayo Tomori.

However, complications have now arisen in Newcastle’s pursuit of the former Chelsea player.

While Tomori would be a logical target due to his Premier League experience, reports suggest that Juventus, Milan’s Serie A rivals, are preparing to enter negotiations.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus plans to hold fresh talks with Milan.

Although personal terms are yet to be agreed upon, Tomori is reportedly high on Juventus’ list of January transfer targets.

Rejecting a club like Juventus would be challenging for any player, even though they are no longer as dominant as they once were.

However, the door may still be open for Newcastle in their pursuit of Tomori.

The 27-year-old has expressed interest in returning to the Premier League, having risen through Chelsea’s academy.

Whether this desire is strong enough for him to reject Juventus remains uncertain.

Newcastle’s interest in strengthening their defense is evident, given their efforts last summer.

It seems unlikely that their ambitions have shifted significantly in a short period.

The potential addition of Tomori could address some of the defensive vulnerabilities exposed in recent performances, offering hope for a resolution to this ongoing transfer saga.
