Everton and David Moyes Gain Momentum After Sunday’s Win Over Tottenham, but Midfield Issues Persist

While Harrison Armstrong has impressed in his limited opportunities due to a lack of depth, Everton urgently need reinforcements to avoid the looming threat of relegation from the Premier League this season.
Should Everton fail to secure a new midfielder, an injury to Mangala, Gueye, or Armstrong could make the second half of the campaign extremely challenging.
However, Everton appear ready to address this issue. Reports from Tutto Juve in Italy suggest that the club has initiated talks with Juventus about signing Arthur Melo.
Arthur, who left Liverpool in 2023 following a loan spell, has not played for Juventus this season under Thiago Motta as the Serie A side seeks to offload him.
According to Tutto Juve, Everton are in discussions with the Brazilian’s representatives over a potential move to Goodison Park.
Real Betis are also reportedly interested, but their negotiations with Arthur’s camp have stalled, giving Everton a chance to seal the deal.
This potential move doesn’t seem like a last-minute decision for Everton.
Back in June, while Sean Dyche was still in charge, Tuttosport reported that the Toffees were keen on Arthur, with Juventus valuing him at £17.1m.
This suggests that Everton’s recruitment team has extensively scouted the 28-year-old and believes he could be a valuable addition under David Moyes.
Moreover, Arthur shouldn’t face major challenges adapting to life on Merseyside, having already spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Liverpool.
If Everton can finalize the deal, they would not only strengthen their midfield but also secure a player with Premier League experience, potentially boosting their survival hopes in the latter half of the season.
