According to a report on 13 September, Everton’s hierarchy is preparing to make a managerial change after suffering three straight Premier League defeats.
Sean Dyche’s position has become precarious following a 3-2 loss at home to Bournemouth, where his side led until the 87th minute.
With the international break now underway, Dyche has five matches to turn things around, starting with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, 14 September, in order to avoid the sack.
Graham Potter and David Moyes Linked to the Everton Job
The ongoing uncertainty surrounding John Textor’s takeover bid, as Farhad Moshiri seeks an exit from the club, raises questions about whether a managerial change would be financially or strategically wise.
Despite this, the club’s dismal start to the season is undeniable.
Although Dyche can point to an injury crisis and his past success in overcoming slow starts, his response to the Bournemouth defeat has intensified the pressure on him.
On 2 September, Michael Ball criticized Dyche for making only two substitutions, which were seen as questionable, and for speaking after the match as though he had no control over the game.
Textor has publicly denied any intention of replacing Dyche, as he continues to negotiate the club’s purchase [Sky Sports, 12 September].
However, if results don’t improve against Aston Villa, Southampton, Leicester, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle, Dyche may not last beyond 5 October.
Sacking Dyche is one challenge, but finding a suitable replacement in the current circumstances is another.
David Moyes has been floated as a potential candidate, partly due to sentimental reasons [Richard Keys, 26 August].
According to TBR Football (5 September), Moyes is under consideration, along with ex-Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter.
While Potter is admired at Goodison Park, his consistent rejection of job offers since leaving Chelsea makes it unlikely he would accept the role, especially with a takeover looming.
