Everton began the transfer window with modest expectations, but as the June 30th PSR deadline approaches, there is growing optimism about a potentially significant summer.
The arrival of Tim Iroegbunam is seen as a smart move between two financially constrained clubs, with Lewis Dobbin heading in the opposite direction. This swap might be sufficient to avoid further financial penalties.
Interest in Everton’s key players is evident, though Manchester United is delaying a deal for Jarrad Branthwaite, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s transfer to Newcastle United hinges on receiving a substantial offer.
For once, Everton is resolutely maintaining their transfer positions, positioning themselves to target their own acquisitions.
Everton’s Bid for Yankuba Minteh
According to The Daily Mail, Everton has made a bid for Yankuba Minteh, one of the standout players identified by Kevin Thelwell. Despite the interest in Minteh being high, it is somewhat ironic that Sean Dyche, leading a club severely impacted by PSR, could benefit from the struggles of a Saudi-backed team.
The report states: “Everton have offered around £30m for Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh. Brighton have also discussed an offer for Minteh, however, French side Lyon are understood to be willing to pay Newcastle’s asking price of closer to £40m.”
Considering Lyon’s financial constraints, Everton might actually be the frontrunner for this deal, potentially securing the Gambian starlet from a Premier League rival.
However, it is unlikely that Everton would spend £30m without first selling one of their key players, such as the aforementioned Branthwaite or Calvert-Lewin, or the exit-linked Amadou Onana.
Acquiring a direct, threatening speedster like Minteh to play off the right wing would fill a crucial gap for Everton. While Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison have performed admirably, their work rate notwithstanding, there are growing calls for McNeil to move to a central position.
McNeil’s preference for his left foot makes him somewhat predictable on the flank, but in the center, he could leverage his skills to create dangerous opportunities and strike from distance.
Minteh, on the other hand, would provide a different dynamic, using his blistering speed to stretch defenses. Last season, he scored ten goals and provided six assists in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord, showcasing his potential.
Arne Slot, who has since moved to Liverpool, praised Minteh: “He certainly doesn’t lack self-confidence. His willingness to give everything is enormous. When we see his statistics, it is really impressive.
“Minteh ran more sprint meters against Ajax in an hour than many players in the two games. He is incredibly fast. And he wants it so badly.”
With such a glowing endorsement and a unique physical and technical skillset, Minteh represents an excellent acquisition for Dyche. If Everton can secure the necessary funds, this deal is a no-brainer.
