Leicester City’s transfer activity remains quiet, but former players are making moves as the window closes.
Ruud van Nistelrooy recently hinted that Leicester City’s transfer activity may be nearing its end, despite initially targeting four key signings.
While several players have left on loan, rival clubs continue to strengthen their squads.
One of Leicester’s priorities remains the striker position. With Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Odsonne Edouard as the only available forwards, and Vardy being the sole consistent scorer, there is growing urgency to reinforce the attack.
However, despite ongoing efforts, no new striker has been secured.
Meanwhile, a former Leicester player, Kelechi Iheanacho, is on the verge of a move. The Nigerian striker has struggled since leaving the Foxes last summer, failing to make an impact at Sevilla.
His form has been underwhelming, with only two goals in Copa del Rey matches against lower-league opponents.
Additionally, he faced criticism over his fitness, though his manager defended him.
With his Sevilla stint not working out, Iheanacho is set for a fresh start in the Championship with Middlesbrough.
Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph confirmed that the forward has arrived in Teesside for a medical ahead of a loan move until the end of the season.
Middlesbrough is reportedly covering a significant portion of his wages and managed to outbid Celtic, who were also interested in signing him.
Despite his recent struggles, Iheanacho’s time at Leicester was filled with success. Over seven years, he won the FA Cup, Community Shield, and Championship, scoring more than 60 goals.
He was particularly renowned for his FA Cup performances, playing a crucial role in Leicester’s 2021 triumph.
Reflecting on his Leicester career after departing in 2024, Iheanacho spoke fondly of his time at the club. “Last season was one of mixed emotions.
I played in the first half but didn’t get many chances in the second. However, the most important thing was that we won the trophy,” he told Leicestershire Live.
He also highlighted the camaraderie within the squad. “We were a strong group, and we achieved success together for ourselves and the club.
Leicester is a great club with a family-like atmosphere. It was special to leave with a smile and a trophy,” he added.
As Iheanacho prepares for a fresh challenge in England, Middlesbrough hopes he can rediscover his form and help them push for promotion.
Meanwhile, Leicester remains in the market for reinforcements but faces challenges in securing their targets.
