Report: Galatasaray targeting late move for £8.5m Leeds player with Turkish window open until Friday

It has been nearly two weeks since the transfer window closed in England, but while Leeds United can no longer sign contracted players, they are still at risk of losing some.

Leeds already have one of the smallest squads in the Championship, albeit with significant quality, and they can ill afford to lose players without being able to replace them.

In the final eight days of the window, Leeds strengthened their squad by bringing in Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka, and Isaac Schmidt, filling key gaps for manager Daniel Farke.

However, losing any player now could be disastrous, especially considering Farke’s frustration with the club for failing to sign a number 10.

Leeds Defender Max Wober Drawing Late Interest

One position where Leeds cannot afford to lose a player is central defense.

Currently, their senior options include Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, and Max Wober.

Despite being a crucial player, Wober has found himself playing a secondary role, which has attracted interest from Galatasaray before the Turkish window closes.

According to Takvim, Galatasaray has been searching for left-footed central defenders across Europe and identified Wober as a target.

The Turkish club is reportedly considering a loan deal with an option to buy the 26-year-old, who has yet to feature in a league game this season.

Even though Wober hasn’t seen much playing time, it would be a major risk for Leeds to allow him to leave without being able to replace him until January.

Additionally, given the strained history between Leeds and Galatasaray, it seems unlikely that Leeds would entertain negotiations with the Turkish side, especially on terms that would clearly benefit Galatasaray.

Max Wober’s Thoughts on His Leeds Future

While on international duty with Austria, Wober addressed his lack of game time at Leeds in a recent interview, offering an honest perspective on his situation.

He expressed satisfaction with his position at the club and understanding of why he hasn’t been featured.

“We are three central defenders at a very similar level,” Wober explained. “If we remain successful and nothing happens, I wouldn’t change much as a coach. So, I have to stand back and wait for my chance.”

Wober also emphasized his commitment to Leeds, stating, “I’m at Leeds, and it’s a perfect fit for me.

I never said that I absolutely wanted to leave.

I accepted this challenge, but I know it won’t be easy to work my way back to the same position as before.”

He added that the chance to play in the Premier League again is a huge motivator, saying, “On paper, we have the best team and a broad squad. Our goal is clearly promotion.”

Despite interest from other clubs, Wober seems focused on fighting for his place at Leeds and helping the team achieve its goal of promotion back to the Premier League.
